SPONSORING A KNOW US PROJECT (KUP)™ TRAINING

Many previous sponsors have found the KUP training as a way to help build their communities. KUP training focuses on helping LGBT individuals (who are already “out”) and their allies to have effective conversations about the personal impact of discriminatory public policies and personal behaviors. Many types of organizations can sponsor a KUP training. Sponsors have included communities interested in non-discrimination, places of worship, LGBT service or advocacy organizations, colleges and universities, and organizations interested in social justice.

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF SPONSORS?

Provide training space:

Sponsors provide training space. Generally a classroom style layout or meeting room that can accommodate 10-30 people is sufficient. Although a “flip-pad” or similar writing space (such as a dry erase board) is useful, other audio-visual equipment is not required.

Publicity and invitations:

Most sponsors have an internal communications network they use for email blasts or regular newsletters with their members or volunteers or others interested in their mission. Sponsors often use these networks to help provide information about the upcoming KUP training. Generally notices are provided about 2-3 weeks away from the actual training event with 1-2 follow-up emails.

A personal outreach (such as calling members or a personal note) is often helpful to build attendance. Pre-registration for KUP training is encouraged to help determine the number of attendees.
